Long time driver, first time buyer - hpstewart2
What can I say beside "WOW"!? From start to finish this was a very pleasant experience. I've been driving the same truck for 13 years. My father purchased it for me when I turned 16 so I had no interaction with any salespeople. From what I've seen on TV and in the movies I expected car salesmen (and women) to be looking out for no one but themselves, trying to make you feel like you got a good deal while actually laughing all the way to the bank. I can honestly say the experience I had buying this Smart car was nothing like that.
What Dan lacked in knowledge about the car he more than made up for with kindness and zeal. He happily rode around with me on the short test drive and took me to see the selection of cars you had in storage outside of the dealership. His kindness put me at ease and I got the feeling he genuienely cared about getting me the car I wanted, not just the car you guys wanted me to buy. And his candor was a breath of fresh air. For every question he didn't have an answer for, he told me so and promptly found the answer. Most of those answers were communicated through email since I live in Tyler and was in Dallas the day I stopped by for other reasons. His replys were prompt and when I stopped responding to his email because I got busy with school and wanted some time to think about the purchase, he didn't pester me but did send me an email once or twice with more information just so I would know he was still on the lookout for the model I wanted. When I had made up my mind he quickly put me in touch with Alan, with whom I had met briefly met before my test drive but was busy helping another customer.
Alan and I communicated by phone over a couple of days to discuss the particular car I was getting and the purchase price. Again, his honesty was refreshing and at no point did I feel like he was pressuring me into a decision I wasn't comfortable with (I relayed this story to my mother who told me my aunt had almost the exact opposite experience buying an SUV that cost almost twice what I paid and that from now on I should go with everyone since I know how to "handle" car salesmen. But really, I don't feel like I did anything special.). After settling on a price I was again pleasantly surprised to find out that in order to accommodate me not having a ride to Dallas, Dan would bring the car to me. This was truly an ineffable gesture since I've never heard of anything remotely like that happening. I was giddy with joy when my new Smart car showed up and have that same feeling every time I go somewhere and realize again that I get to drive this awesome beast!! I can't imagine having a more pleasant experience and I recommend the car and the dealership to everyone who asks, which is a lot of people since there're only about 5 of these cars in Tyler (but mine's the best looking). I have pity on anyone who buys a new car and doesn't feel how I've felt for the past 3 weeks. It's the biggest purchase I've ever made and it's almost my proudest. Thank you all for the wonderful experience and if you have a whole team of Dan's and Alan's then I have a feeling your dealership will be around for a long time. If I don't get sandwiched between 2 semi's on I-20 I will definitely be buying one of these for my kids someday!!
