A few updates after I purchased my 2020 F-150 truck in early August. The day after I took the vehicle home, I noticed the grill was damaged. I emailed my salesman (Steve Boxer) and asked if he still was able to access the photos from the dealer’s web site. I wanted to see if the damage was there already, or I was a victim of a hit and run. He advised me the photos no longer existed as they get purged after a sale. I determined it was damaged after the sale and ordered a new
grill. The cost of the new grill was $958.26 so I submitted a claim to my insurance company. This was to help defray the out-of-pocket cost.
A few days later I was searching the internet and put my VIN in the search bar. I was looking to print the original window sticker. When I clicked on the Images tab in Google, the original pictures from the dealer’s web site showed up. I then emailed my salesman asking to speak to him. He called back a few days later and I told him my findings. He wasn’t sure what could be done but would talk to the Used Car Manager (Jason McKeown). In the interim, I called my insurance company and advised them the damage was done presale. I then asked to rescind my insurance claim.
The salesman called back later in the day and advised me nothing could be done. Used cars are sold as is. Had they noticed the damage sooner, they would have jacked the price up and either way I would have paid for it. He ended our conversation with “the truck was sitting on the lot for a while and the price was dropped already. I bet we didn’t make $10,000 on the sale”.
So:
• No financial compensation or offer to reduce labor costs was offered.
• In the web photos the original tires are on the vehicle and the damage is there. In the 10 months prior to me buying the truck:
o The tires were changed
o The vehicle given a Multi-point inspection by Factory Trained Technicians
o In June the vehicle was washed and detailed.
• They were going to let me commit fraud by submitting this to my insurance company.
• The truck was washed and prepped before I took possession, and no one noticed the damage.
True professionals.
The true hero in this is Russ and the guys in the Body Shop. They went above and beyond to have my grill replaced in record time.
